What is Construction Engineering?

A Construction engineering programme combines both the aspects- Civil Engineering and Construction Engineering. a construction engineer is a type of a civil engineer who designs, manages and overseas projects within the construction industry
One of the major differences between Civil engineering and Construction Engineering is that the former lays more priority in design work, thus leading students a career as a design professional.


A Construction engineer designs, manages and overseas projects withing the construction industry. The type of projects they might work on ranges from designing a drainage and sewage system to constructing a building or developing railroads or roadways. The type of contruction projects that construction engineers work can be listed down as under:
  • Electrical - electrical systems
  • Mechanical- plumbing, heating or air conditioning
  • Highway or Heavy- bridges, airpots, highways, or water waste
  • Building- commercial housing or business building
With strong logical skills, these engineers are good at putting together a good team to finish a project.

Eligibility Criteria for Construction Engineering

Interested students can pursue Construction Engineering at the UG as well as PG level. The eligibility criteria is given below:
  • UG Level: Students must have passed class 12th with minimum 60 percent marks and students have studied Physics, Chemistry, as main subjects.
  • PG Level: Students must have completed BE or Btech in Construction Engineering or Civil Engineering with a minimum passing percentage in an aggregate of the subjects studied at undergraduate level.

Construction engineers typically work in a variety of areas within the construction industry. This includes areas like contracting and design. Management training with construction engineering can lead to positions as a cost engineer, an operations manager or a safety and design engineer.
